PeaceQuest

PeaceQuest was initiated by the Sisters of Providence’s Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation office in 2013 in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI in 2018. PeaceQuest sought to commemorate World War One by organizing events that emphasized peace — a value that, we believe, Canadians cherish. While PeaceQuest recognized that wars are certainly important historical events, it saw no glory in war. Wars are tragic failures in the conduct of human affairs. There are no winners.

The project’s goal was to engage Canadians in reflection, dialogue and action on the nature of peacemaking, the consequences of war, and creative ways to resolve conflict.

With generous seed funding from the Sisters of Providence, committed donors across Canada made the five-year project possible. They include many members of the Canadian Religious Conference, the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area, Veterans Affairs Canada, and many individual donors.

The report entitled PeaceQuest – Our Five-Year Journey provides a comprehensive account of the activities between 2013 and 2018. The video, The PeaceQuest Story also offers a good overview of the work and the lessons learned.
